NEW BRITAIN – The state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services will bring its Community Awareness Program to South Church next week.

The CAP trains citizens on how to recognize, provide support and assist those struggling with mental health issues, substance abuse or addiction, including use of drugs, alcohol and issues with gambling. The program is sponsored by the church deacons and the City of New Britain.

There is no charge to attend the six-hour training program, running from 5 to 8 p.m. on April 18 and 19 at Cooper Hall at the church, 90 Main St. The commitment includes both nights, according to the church. A light dinner will be served at 4:45 p.m.

The RSVP deadline was April 3 but questions can be answered by contacting presenter and CAP adviser Father Kapriel Mouradjian at
