Virginia (Carnot) Matyka

Virginia (Carnot) Matyka died peacefully at Southington Care Center, surrounded by her loving family, on April 15, 2017. She was 84 years old.

Virginia was born in Shamokin, Pa., on May 10, 1932, the daughter of the late Leo and Veronica Carnot. She came to Connecticut as a child and lived in Meriden, moving to Kensington, when she married Walter Matyka, Sr. Virginia retired from New Departure (General Motors) and was a member of the Ladies Guild and secretary for UAW. She was a loving mother and best friend.

Virginia is survived by a son: Walter Matyka Jr. and wife Kelly; three daughters: Virginia Majewski, Cindi and her husband, Tom Baldyga, and Mona Lisa Matyka, all of Berlin; grandchildren: Marlo Matassa and Julie Baldyga; and two great-grandchildren: Patrick Matassa and Lily Matassa.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on April 28, 2017, at St. Paul Church in Kensington. Burial in Maple Cemetery was private at the request of the family.
