Barbara (Mehan) Kidwell, 64, of Plainville, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 6, 2017.
Born in New Britain to the late Joseph L. and Rosalie (Wrobel) Mehan, she attended local schools and graduated from UConn with a Bachelor’s degree in English. Barbara worked as a secretary for the Board of Education throughout the Plainville school system for many years.
In her leisure time, Barbara enjoyed going to tag sales and finding great bargains. She could be found relaxing by reading a good book with her cats always nearby, doing puzzles and playing cards with her family. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandsons.
She had a fun-spirited soul with a witty sense of humor and a smile that could light up a room. Her kindness towards others will never be forgotten.
A beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she leaves her husband, Roger; her children, Peter Kidwell and his wife, Heather, and Ruth Kidwell and her husband, Jay Wagner; her beloved grandsons, Ian and Danny; her brothers, Joseph M. Mehan and Thomas P. Mehan; several nieces and nephews; and friends too numerous to mention.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, May 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain. A funeral service officiated by Rev. Ronald Smith will begin promptly at 7 p.m. She will be laid privately at a later date beside her parents in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of her love for cats, consider making a donation in Barbara’s name to The Humane Society of the United States, Dept: Memorial Donations, 1255 23rd Street, NW, Suite 450, Washington, DC 20037 or www.humanesociety.org .
