Elsie Iona Forde, 89, of New Britain, Conn., died Friday, June 30, 2017, at home. Elsie was born in St. Andrew, Barbados, and was the daughter of the late Gouldbourn and Gwendolyn (Goodman) Ashby. In 1993, Elsie retired from Stanley Works tool company after 26 years of distinguished service as a press operator. She was also an active member of the New Britain Social Club for 40 years.

Elsie is survived by her two beloved sons, Orlik and Kenrick Forde, both of New Britain; her brother, Chesterfield Goodman and his wife, Oriray, of Barbados; three grandchildren, McCartney of Atlanta, Ga., Janique of Houston, Texas, and Sonsyria of New Britain; seven great-grandchildren; special nieces, Aldean Braithwaite, Jacqueline Brathwaite, Sandra Forde, Vanessa D. Wallace, as well as a host of nieces, cousins and friends. Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Forde. Elsie leaves her family a legacy of kindness, hard work, selflessness as well as great respect for herself and others.

Homegoing Celebration for Elsie will be held Monday, July 10, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Bethesda Apostolic Church, 249 Stanley St., New Britain, with the Bishop Dale I. Shaw, Pastor, presiding. Committal service and final resting place will be in Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain.
