Florence (Gryzenia) Bedus, 91, of Newington died on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley J. Bedus for 68 years. Born in New Britain, she grew up there, moved to Newington 64 years ago and was a member of St. Mary’s Church. Florence graduated from New Britain High School and was active in the Holy Cross Drum Corps, where she established lifelong friends and they proudly called themselves the “Ten Notes.” She worked at Pratt & Whitney and later at Atlantic Machine Tool for many years. She also worked at the polls on Election Day for years and well into her 80s. Florence was a member of Indian Hill Country Club and was active in the Ladies 9 hole and 18 hole groups, where she played golf for over 45 years. She was a member of the Polish American Club Ladies Auxiliary, was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed traveling, reading and following the Boston Red Sox. Most important to Florence was babysitting and spending time with her loving grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Maureen Bedus, Thomas and Donna Bedus, all of Old Saybrook; her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Ted Fravel of Newington; her four grandchildren, Stephanie, Laura, Jenna and TJ. She was predeceased by her sister, Vera Krajewski. Her family would like to thank her two dedicated caregivers June and Sonia.

Family and friends are invited to call at Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, Monday from 9 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church. She will be laid to rest, with her husband, in West Meadow Cemetery.
