VERNON - A former Connecticut woman has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $400,000 from her East Windsor employer and funneling it through her dead mother's bank account.
The Journal-Inquirer reports that 53-year-old Michele Labrec pleaded guilty last week to first-degree larceny and faces sentencing on Nov. 3. Labrec used to live in Coventry but now lives in New York.
Authorities say Labrec embezzled from Allied Community Resources, where she worked as manager of payroll processing. The money went into her dead mother's bank account.
She initially told police that the money was from her mother's old lottery prize. But later said she allowed her husband to believe they were going to inherit her mother's lottery winnings because she thought that if she had money he would stay interested in her.
