Andrzej 'Andy' Jan Buczek

Andrzej “Andy” Jan Buczek, 67, of Farmington, heart transplant survivor of 33 years, beloved husband and father, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Przemysl, Poland, on Aug. 29, 1950, he was the son of the late Stanislaw and Justyna Buczek. Andrzej was the first successful heart transplant recipient at Hartford Hospital and the first successful recipient in the state of Connecticut. He was a kind, friendly and funny man of many talents. He was an exceedingly talented musician playing the clarinet, saxophone, piano, and accordion. He also loved science and put himself through college, eventually graduating from Central Connecticut State University with a degree in biology.

His kind heart, witty jokes, and friendly smile will be sorely missed by many including his wife, Elzbieta “Ela” Buczek and daughters, Monika and Alexandra Buczek of Farmington; his brother, Adam Buczek and his wife, Janina, of East Berlin; his brother, Richard Buczek of Plainville, his sister, Barbara Buczek and her husband, Darek, of Farmington; his niece, Eva D’Amore and his nephew, Robert Buczek; as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and his dearly beloved pets, Kizia and Scratch.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday, Sept. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29 at Sacred Heart Church, New Britain. He will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
