Nancy (Benke) Muir

Nancy (Benke) Muir, 84, of Plainville, wife of Norman E. Muir, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at her home. Born in New Britain, daughter of the late Raymond and Mildred (Peterson) Benke, she lived in Plainville since 1955. Nancy was a graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1950, and worked in Family Services at the New Britain Superior Court for 13 years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Altar Guild of the church; Lutheran Church Women; and the Plainville Senior Center. Nancy loved to travel and was an avid fan of the UConn Women’s Basketball team.

Besides her husband Norman, she is survived by a son, Robin “Rob” Burns of Seattle, Wash.; a daughter, Bonnie Burns Arcari and her partner, Dawn Taylor, of Middlefield; and four grandchildren, who were the focus of her life, Audrey, Amy and Timothy Arcari, all of Middlefield, and Alexa Muir of Williamsville, N.Y. She was predeceased by her first husband, Richard W. Burns and a son, Richard “Ricky” Burns.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 77 Franklin Square, New Britain. There are no calling hours. Burial was private in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. The Carlson Funeral Home, New Britain, is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CT Breast Health Initiative, 185 Main St., New Britain, CT 06051.
