Donald H. Crockett, 56, of New Britain, son of the late David and Charlotte (Dyson) Crockett, passed away unexpectedly at Windham Hospital on Dec. 14, 2017.
Born in New Britain, Donald was a graduate of Pulaski High School class of 1979 and earned a degree in Computer and Systems Engineering, graduating Summa Cum Laude, from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1983. He later earned his Master’s from Rensselaer as well as earning a second Master’s from University of Illinois-Champaign.
Donald moved to the Boston area thirty years ago where he worked for Digital Equipment Corporation, Houghton-Mifflin Publishing and as a consultant before moving back to New Britain in 2008, where he worked for Aetna Health Insurance.
He was a former member of the former First Baptist Church in New Britain and also was formerly active with the New Britain Industrial Museum. He was also a member of Friends of AW Stanley Park and was very passionate in the protection of New Britain park lands and watersheds.
He was an avid birder and was active in birding groups in Massachusetts and Connecticut. He loved photographing, videoing birds and hosting websites related to birding. Donald was involved with Virtual Birder and Project Snow Storm websites.
Donald is survived by his brother, David J. Crockett of Manchester; an uncle, Henry Dyson and his wife, Joyce, of Kensington; an aunt, Jean Hubbell of Maryland; several cousins, several grandnieces and grandnephews.
A memorial service for Donald will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 5, 2018, in the Erwin Chapel of South Church, 90 Main St., New Britain, CT06051. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private and held at a later date.
Carlson Funeral Home, New Britain is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Audubon Society.
