Carmen Pena, 94, of Newington, passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, at the Hospital of Central CT at New Britain General.

Carmen was born Sept. 5, 1923, in Guayama, Puerto Rico and was the daughter of the late Rafael and Maria (Rodriguez) Montanez. “Abuelita” lived life to the fullest, she loved to dance and always had a smile on her face, she will be missed immensely.

Carmen is survived by her four loving children, her two daughters, Francisca Santana and Milagros Mercado, both of Newington, and her two sons, Harry Vasquez of Middletown and Ruben Millan and his wife, Francisca, of Cromwell. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews

Funeral rites for Carmen will be held Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. with the procession departing at 9 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT. Followed by a Liturgy of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1755 Stanley St., New Britain, CT. Committal service and final resting place will be in St. Mary Cemetery, 1141 Stanley St., New Britain, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
