Jan (John) P. Szymanowski, 92, of Newington, died on Monday, December 18, 2017, surrounded by his family.

Although born in Brooklyn, N.Y. when Jan was 2 years old, his family moved to Poland where he lived until 1964 when he returned to the U.S. He was employed at Atlantic Machine Tool until his retirement. Jan loved being a Dziadzi. He cared for his grandchildren while their parents were at work and did fun activities with them. He was a jokester who could always make anyone laugh.

After the grandchildren went home, he enjoyed kicking back and relaxing watching TV especially old western movies and his favorite show, “Knight Rider.” Jan was a wonderful man who will be missed but is now reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Zofia who passed away earlier in 2017.

A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he leaves behind his children: Henry Szyman and partner Grazyna, Barbara Kocur and her husband John, Halina Brojek and Robert Szymanowski and partner Angie; his adored grandchildren and their spouses: John K. & Ilona, Latisha & Edmund, Dorothy & Chad, Nichole & Nick, Annette, Jason, John S. and AnnMarie; as well as seven cherished great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Jan was predeceased by his brother, Rev. Henry Szymanowski
