Lucy (Curcio) Ciotto, 89, of Plainville, formerly of Hartford, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at home surrounded by her family. Lucy was mourning the loss of her husband of 67 years, Biagio D. Ciotto who passed away just a mere two weeks ago. Lucy was born in Hartford, Conn., on April 12, 1928, daughter of the late Angelo and Salvatrice (Pizzo) Curcio. Lucy was a graduate of Bulkeley High School of Hartford, Class of 1946. After high school she was employed by the Little Aetna in Hartford. After many years as a stay at home Mom, raising her five children, Lucy worked for and retired from the City of Hartford Town Clerk’s Office. She was a member of the Young Italian American Ladies Auxiliary. She also enjoyed being a chairwoman of many social events, such as the La Rosa Piu Bella fashion show. Lucy enjoyed her travels with her husband Biagio and her brother-in-law, Peter and his wife, Peggy. In addition to her love of being a mother, her true joy was being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to spend time with all of them. She was the rock of her family and will be missed dearly.

Lucy is survived by five children, Dominick Ciotto of Rocky Hill, Roseann Szmeiter and husband, Richard, of Plainville, Michael Ciotto of Vernon, Sallyann Crane and husband, Martin, of Plainville and Robert Ciotto of Plainville and his girlfriend, Jerrilyn Tufts. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Dominick Ciotto Jr., Michelle Ciotto, Jennifer Pappariella and husband, Lewis, Michael Szmeiter and wife, Lindsey, Daniel Szmeiter and husband, Hector, Corey Crane and wife, Lindsay, Eric Crane and wife, Kara, Regina Diaz and husband, Nestor, Lindsey Ciotto and partner, Victor, Michael Ciotto Jr. and wife, Ana, Ryan Ciotto, Robert Ciotto Jr., Kevin Ciotto and Justin Ciotto and eight great-grandchildren, Jayden, Mason, Ethan, Kaylee, Julian, Maddox, Michael, Brooklyn and two more boys on the way.

In addition to her husband and parents, Lucy was predeceased by her brother, Michael Curcio; her sisters, Mary Bordonaro, Jane Infante, Paula Formica and Josephine Wirzbicki; her brother-in-law, Peter J. Ciotto and his wife, Margaret; her great-grandchild, Maksymilian Szmeiter and her niece and goddaughter, Maria Curcio DiManno. The family wishes to thank the Fresenius Medical Care of Newington for their compassionate care for Lucy over the last few years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, 285 Church St., Hartford. The family requests that everyone gather directly at the church. Everyone is invited to attend the burial immediately following the Mass at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday, Jan. 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.
