David T. Axelby, 70, of New Britain passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018. He was the son of the late Harry and Clara (Taylor) Axelby and was a lifelong resident of New Britain. Dave enlisted into the U.S. Air Force and worked as a telecommunications system center technician. He received The Presidential Unit Citation with four clusters while serving in the USAF Strategic Air Command. He was honorably discharged in 1974. Dave enjoyed model boat building and was an amateur and shortwave radio enthusiast his call sign being KB1NYW. He is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jane Prebis-Axelby who died in 2015 and his sister, Geraldine Roberts. Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, New Britain. In recognition of his service and dedication to his country, Military Honors will be rendered at the Chapel of Sacred Heart Cemetery where he will then be laid to rest beside his wife, Jane.
