Kenneth M. Nobel Skoglund, 93, of New Britain, affectionately called PopPop, died Tuesday night, Jan. 23, 2018, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut. Born in Newington, the son of the late Herbert and Hilda (Call) Skoglund, he lived most of his life in New Britain. Prior to working many years at Stanley Tools, he had worked at Skoglund Oil Company. A member of the First Lutheran Church, he was one of the founders of the New Britain Little League and coached the Phillies, was a member of the SVEA Club in Berlin, was an avid fan of UConn womens basketball and the New Britain High School baseball. He was also a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran.
Mr. Skoglund is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy (Marchetti) Skoglund; a daughter, Joyce Ann and her husband, Roland Carignan, of Old Lyme; two sons, Kenneth and his wife, Linda Skoglund, of Berlin, Thomas and his wife, Beth Skoglund, of Salisbury, Md.; five grandchildren, Blair and his wife, Marissa Carignan, Arley and her husband, Jay Pekrul, Kaley Shea Skoglund and her fiancé, Kyle Roof, Trevor Skoglund and Emma Skoglund; three great-grandchildren, Nash and Noble Pekrul and Sloane Carignan and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Herbert, Arnold, and Albert Skoglund.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
