James Elmer Jones, 66, of New Britain, passed away Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at UConn Health Center.

Born in Hartford, son of the late Ellsworth and the late Blanche (Smith) Jones, he graduated from Berlin High School, served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, received a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, in elementary special education from Central Connecticut State College in 1980, was selected a member of Kappa Delta Pi, and owned and operated Trinity Locksmith in New Britain. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, and the VFW.

He is survived by a brother, Randy Jones of Berlin, two nieces, Kerin and Kelly Jones, and two nephews, Michael and Brien Jones. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert George Jones.

Friends and relatives are invited to call at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin, on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, from 5-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at 7 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 25 South St., New Britain. A graveside service with full military honors will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, in the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown,. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Connecticut, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108-3272.
