Shirley DiCesare, 81, of New Britain, passed away suddenly Thursday evening, Jan. 25.

A longtime resident of New Britain, she volunteered at New Britain General Hospital for more than 30 years in the flower room. She was a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 1954. She was an avid animal lover, especially to cats, and she participated in the Plainville Choral Society for many years performing in the yearly Christmas shows.

Shirley is survived by her son, Michael DiCesare of Plainville; her sister, Jean DiCesare of Enfield; and several nieces and nephews and was predeceased by her son, Arnold, and former spouse, Arnold DiCesare.

A time of visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 9-10 a.m. at New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, followed by her funeral liturgy at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
