Florence R. (Mickiewicz) Woronko, 84, of New Britain, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late George Woronko.
Born in New Britain, daughter of Nikodem and Emilia (Kulik) Mickiewicz, she was a lifelong New Britain resident and a member of Sacred Heart Church and a former member of the St. Cecelia Choir. Florence was employed as a teacher at Holy Cross School for many years until her retirement.
A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she leaves her three children, George Woronko Jr. and his wife Kathryn of Doylestown, Pa., Joanne Sherman and her husband Craig of Bethel, and Maryanne Woronko of New Britain; two grandsons, Justin and Daniel Sherman; and her great-grandson, Otis Sherman. She also leaves her sister, Helen Flis of New Britain, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Nicholas Woronko; her sister, Lucy McCue, and her two brothers, Joseph and Stanley Mickiewicz.
Her funeral service will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 9 a.m. at the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, New Britain. Burial will be private in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, Feb. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Burritt Hill.
