Sarah (DiMaio) Mazzarella

Sarah (DiMaio) Mazzarella of Kensington passed into eternal rest Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, with her loving and devoted family by her side. Born in Campodipietra, Italy, on Jan. 29, 1934, the daughter of the late Vincenzo and the late Maria (Paventi) DiMaio. She graduated from New Britain High School, and worked for New Britain General Hospital in the Credit Office for over 20 years, taking an early retirement to take care of her 10 grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She attended all of their school and sporting events where she was their biggest fan. Everyone knew the family could be found on Thursday night at her house for pasta and her amazing meatballs and all friends knew they were welcome. She loved to travel with her friends, especially with her closest friend, Irene Sanders, and loved vacationing at Soundview Beach with her sister-in-law, Marjorie D’Alessandro and their families.

She is survived by her daughter, Lori Alicea and her husband, Ed, her son, James Mazzarella and his wife, Fran, her son, Ernest Mazzarella Jr.; her grandchildren, Michael and his wife, Rebecca, Christine, Tarra, Samantha, Kayla, Carli, Stephanie, Tori, Ernest, James, and her sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Donald Dalena. In addition she leaves behind several sisters and brothers-in-law as well as countless nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mariann, and her former husband and best friend, Ernest Mazzarella Sr.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Hwy., Berlin, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church on Alling Street. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tribute Program, P.O.
