James “Jim” Day, 64, of Kensington, loving husband of Lynne (Cavanaugh) Day, died Thursday at The Hospital of Central, Connecticut, New Britain.
Born in New York, N.Y., son of the late Hugh Day and Ida (Mastrantuono) Day-Matra and her husband Frank, he graduated from Lakeland High School in New Jersey, and received his bachelor’s degree in special education from Central Connecticut State University, and his master’s degree in special education from St. Joseph’s University in West Hartford. He was a special education teacher, coach and athletic director at Berlin High School for 36½ years, until 2014, and was a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Berlin Athletic Hall of Fame, where he was a founder and served on the Board of Directors.
In addition to his wife, his mother and his stepfather, he is survived by a son, Shane Day of Kensington; two sisters, Denise Carrozza in New Jersey and Sue Anne Phillips in Florida; and several nieces and nephews. THE CORRECT TIME of the Memorial Mass will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Paul’s Church, 467 Alling St., Kensington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
