Josephine (“Tootsie”) Catherine (Chesanek) Czarnota, 84, passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018, after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife for over 61 years of Edward Czarnota, Sr. Josephine was born in New Britain and was the daughter of Andrew and Helen (Yelenak) Chesanek. She attended local schools and was formerly employed as a bookkeeper at Lehrer’s Hardware Store in New Britain. She was currently a resident of Newington.
To Josephine, her family was everything. Being a good mother was her primary objective and greatest achievement. She loved her husband and children endlessly and unconditionally. She was also a fan of UConn Women’s Basketball and Red Sox baseball. She enjoyed fill-in puzzles and loved listening to music, especially songs from the 50s and 60s. She had a pretty singing voice and the best penmanship.
In addition to her husband, Josephine is survived by three children whom she cherished, Edward Czarnota, Jr., of Newington, Nancy Dobrzanski and her husband Mark of Berlin, and Kathleen Czarnota of Rocky Hill. Josephine is also survived by four siblings, Irma Czerwinski, Andrew Chesanek and his wife Gail (“Bonnie”), William Chesanek and his wife Carmen, Joyce Clinch and her husband Robert, and her sister-in-law Sharon Chesanek. In addition, Josephine leaves several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends to mourn her passing. Josephine was predeceased by her parents and her brother, John Chesanek.
Funeral services will begin on Friday, April 6, 2018, at 8:45 a.m. from the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt Street, New Britain, Conn., followed by the funeral liturgy at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Parish, 195 South Main Street, New Britain, Conn.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, April 5, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made in Josephine’s memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142. Josephine’s family would like to thank the entire staff of Unit C5 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain for their compassionate care to Josephine during her final days.
