Anita G. Bernstein, RN, age 97 of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and a former long-time resident of New Britain, Connecticut, passed away on March 27, 2018, of natural causes. She was born in Bristol, Connecticut. She was married from 1942 to 1962, to the late Paul Apostalon, with whom she had two daughters, Pamela and Diane. She graduated from the Hartford (Connecticut) Hospital School of Nursing in 1942, and worked in the emergency room at New Britain General Hospital, where she met and later married the late Chester M. Bernstein, MD. She was also head of nursing for the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Connecticut, and a University Hospital Preceptor Nurse at McCook Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, which became part of the University of Connecticut Health Center in 1967. She retired from nursing in 1968, and took up painting and golf as hobbies. She enjoyed entertaining and cooking, with Greek food her specialty. While a resident of La Posada in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, she enjoyed playing bingo with other residents. She is survived by her daughters, Pamela Wass and Diane Kutschera, son-in-law Richard Wass, her sons LCDR, Robert Bernstein (USCG, Ret.), David Bernstein, Ph.D., 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
