Helen (McNally) Stanton, 97, of New Britain, passed away peacefully at Jerome Home, in New Britain, on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. She was born on September 4, 1920, in Hartford, to the late Edward and Helen (Downey) McNally.

In life, Helen loved her family and friends. She also loved a good tag sale or flea market. She would always find some of the most interesting things. She usually kept her eyes open for a nice doll to add to her collection. If she wasn’t out at a tag sale, she could be found having coffee at McDonald’s with some friends. She would spend free time knitting and crocheting, and she always made time to play Bingo. Helen belonged to the St. Paul’s Ladies Guild and was a secretary for the AARP in Berlin. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a secretary for the Law Office of Attorney Theodore Poulos.

Helen is predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, John M. Stanton; three brothers, Thomas McNally, James McNally and Edward McNally; and a sister, Elizabeth (McNally) Souney. She leaves behind her sons, John F. Stanton and his wife, Karen of Kensington, Conn., and Michael J. Stanton and his wife, Barbara of Sun City West, Az. She also leaves behind a grandson, Sean Stanton and her great-grandchildren, Grayson and Ivy Erin Stanton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Friday, June 1, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul Church, 461 Alling St., Kensington, Conn., followed by internment at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain, Conn. Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, June 1, 2018, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Luddy and Peterson Funeral Home, 205 South Main St., New Britain, Conn. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make donations to the Jerome Home Resident Activity Fund, 975 Corbin Ave. New Britain, CT 06052.
