Mabel (Bostrom) Holmberg

Mabel (Bostrom) Holmberg, 90, of New Britain, widow of C. Norman Holmberg, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018, at Jerome Home.

Born in New Britain, daughter of the late Carl and Maria (Nelson) Bostrom, she lived in Kensington for 43 years, returning to New Britain in 2011. A graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1945, and New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing, Mabel was a registered nurse in the operating room at New Britain General Hospital, and later working for the Town of Berlin with the Visiting Nurses, as well as as the school nurse at Griswold School and Berlin High School for 25 years, retiring in 1992. A member of First Lutheran Church, Mabel served with the Caring Network, Camp Calumet Campers, the church Bible study group and the ABC Quilters and was a former church council member.

Mabel leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Alan Robertson of New Britain; a brother, Arvid Bostrom of Geneva, N.Y.; a sister, Greta Kobylarz and her husband Henry of Kensington; three grandchildren, Matthew Robertson and his wife Jesse of Saco, Maine; Erica Robertson of Farmington and Adam Robertson and his wife Rebecca of Norwich; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Mabel was also predeceased by four sisters, Alice Mankus, Margaret Rosenquist, Evelyn Root and Astrid Swanson; and two brothers, Arthur and Thure Bostrom.

Funeral services are Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 77 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday 4 to 7 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain.
