Richard John 'Dick' Carroll

Richard John “Dick” Carroll left us on Aug. 14, 2018, joining in heaven his wife and best friend Barbara, six months to the day after her own passing. He was born on Broad Street, New Britain, on Nov. 20, 1932.

Dick attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and New Britain Senior High, graduating in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army as a Presidential Honor Guard in Washington, D.C., under President Eisenhower, meeting him personally and shaking his hand. After the army, Dick worked at Fafnir Bearing Co. in New Britain, before becoming a New Britain Police Officer. Dick retired from the New Britain Police Force in 1983 at the rank of sergeant.

Dick leaves behind his two sons, Michael Carroll and his wife, Denise of New Britain, Patrick Carroll of Southington; four grand-children, Jessica Carroll of Southington, Janet Carroll of New York City, Shane Carroll of San Antonio, Texas, and Brandon Carroll and his wife, Jennifer of Southington; his great-grandson, Connor Carroll, his sister, Ann Raia, his brothers, Joseph, Bill, John and wife, Doreen, and Tom Carroll, his sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Ann Carroll, and many nieces and nephews, as well as many close friends. Dick was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Alice [Osakowicz] Carroll, his brother, Edward Carroll, his sister, Mary Carroll, a brother-in-law, Samuel Raia, and sister-in-law, Hedy Carroll.

Dick and Barbara were both very proud of their family and will be missed by all who knew them.

A Memorial Mass for Dick will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Road, Southington. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations in Dick’s name can be made to the Ancient Order of Hibernians at P.O. Box 539, West Caldwell, NJ 07007 or to the Rocky Hill Veteran’s Home at CT Dept. of Veterans’ Affairs, 287 West St., Rocky Hill, CT 06067. DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N.
