Ralph 'Buddy' Chant

Ralph "Buddy" Chant, 77, of Southington, passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2018. Born in New Britain, he lived in Berlin for 50 years, moving to Southington in 2002. A graduate of Berlin High School, Class of 1958, he served with the U.S. Navy, recently worked as a courier for Hartford Healthcare. Buddy was instrumental with the Berlin Men's and Women's Softball Leagues and was also a longtime Umpire. He was a former member of the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department and was known as "Buddy Bee" as the mascot for the former New Britain Red Sox at Bee Hive Field.

Surviving is his daughter, Kelly Chant of Unionville, two brothers and their wives, Paul and Virginia Chant of Berlin, and Donald and Nancy Chant of Cromwell, several nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services are Monday evening 7 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Calling hours are Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
