It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of David J. Saleski on Aug. 28, 2018, at Hospital of Central Connecticut, after he lost his long, brave battle against cancer. David was born May 29, 1948, to the late John and Mary (Wieliczko) Saleski of New Britain, and was a lifelong resident of New Britain. He attended Holy Cross School and Saint Thomas Aquinas High School from which he graduated in 1966. He furthered his education at UCONN in Storrs, graduating in 1971 from the School of Pharmacy.
He spent his working career as a registered pharmacist, filling prescriptions at many local pharmacies, such as Allen Street Pharmacy and Central Rexall Pharmacy. He loved reading, listening to music, current events, and travelling. He collected countless books on poetry, art, cinema, and American and world history. Other hobbies of intense interest to David were jazz music, stamp collecting, and anything to do with the Civil War. David also loved sports and was a rabid Red Sox and Green Bay Packers fan. His cats kept him loving company for many years, and one of his favorite causes was the prevention of animal cruelty.
David is survived by his sisters, Christine Perry and her husband, Richard of Southington, and Linda Bertolini of Berlin, his nephews, Michael Bertolini and his wife, Shannon of Simsbury, and Stephen Bertolini of Berlin.
He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, David Bertolini. He leaves many other relatives and friends to mourn his loss. There are no calling hours. Luddy-Peterson Funeral Home is in charge of final arrangements. The family wishes to express their warm thanks to the staff of The Hospital of Central Connecticut and Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they gave to David. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the animal protection organization of your choice.
