Norma Powell

Norma Powell, formerly of New Britain, Conn., age 93, passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018. She was born May 25, 1925, in New London Conn., a daughter of Ripley and Laila Allen Perry. She was married to Michael Powell for 65 years until his passing in 2012. Mike and Norma were members of Shuttle Meadow Country Club, Ram Island Yacht Club, Fishers Island Yacht Club, and Mystic Seaport. They spent as much time as possible on their sailboat, Teal, and enjoyed many sailing adventures, the most memorable being a 15-month journey launching from Connecticut to Maine, then continuing to Florida before returning home. Norma enjoyed playing bridge and was a passionate golfer. She loved to do volunteer work for The New Britain Museum of American Art and New Britain General Hospital and was involved in activities through her church, First Church of Christ (UCC), New Britain. She enjoyed her time with the New Britain Garden Club, creating beautiful floral arrangements frequently inspired by works of art.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Bagwell, Maryland, and her husband, Charles Bruce Bagwell M.D., Ph.D. of Topsham, Maine, and by two sons, Allen Powell of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and John Powell, Ph.D. and his wife, Pamela Tassara of Arlington, Mass.; a sister, Jean Rosalind of Connecticut; six grandchildren, Jennifer Bagwell and Tory Chase, Katie and Alex Powell, and Benjamin and Adam Powell; and a great-grandchild due to be born in November 2018.
