Helen M. (Chymbor) Balavender, 92, of Kensington, passed away quietly at home on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018. She was born in Southington, to the late Joseph and Helen (Bemis) Chymbor and lived most of her life in New Britain. Helen met John “Jonesey” Balavender and was married to him for 59 years until his passing in 2009. She was employed by The Stanley Works in the hand tool division until her retirement and enjoyed being a member of the Stanley Works Seniors Group.
She also loved reading, going to the casino and spending time at the family cottage on Gardner Lake in Salem, Conn. Helen is survived by her daughter, Donna Larson and her sons, Brien and wife, Florina and Joseph and wife, Gale; her grandchildren, Michael and wife, Kate Larson, Kathleen Larson-Halevah and husband, Adam; her two step-grandchildren, Ross and Nadine Ashley, and many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her brother, John Chymbor, her son-in-law, Richard Larson and her daughter-in-law, Mary (Zabilansky) Balavender.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, Nov. 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Burritt Hill, 332 Burritt St., New Britain. Her funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, at Burritt Hill. Inurnment at the State of Connecticut Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband and will take place at a later date.
