Daniel Nahorney

Daniel Nahorney, 90, of Georgetown, Del., formerly of New Britain, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the home of his daughter and son-in-law on Dec. 21, 2018. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Betty) Banks Nahorney.

Born on April 12, 1928, he was the loving son of Trofim and Kate (Podobinski) Nahorney. Daniel grew up in New Britain and was a graduate of New Britain High School.

He served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. Navy where he was trained to use IBM computers. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, Daniel spent the remainder of his career in the Data Processing field, retiring from the Metropolitan District Commission in Hartford, as a data processing director.

Daniel was an avid New England sports fan and was able to watch his cherished Boston Red Sox win another world series this past fall. He was a man of many hobbies; woodworking and gardening were his favorites. He enjoyed vacationing with his family and treasured time spent with his grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late John Nahorney and Stella Tynik and is survived by his three children, Dennis Nahorney and his wife, Cynthia of Virginia, Catherine Cosgrove and her husband, Tom of Delaware, and Wendy McCarron and her husband, Michael of Massachusetts. He leaves behind his much-loved grandchildren (A to Z as he referred to them), Ashley McCarron Lind and her husband, Collin, Kelsey, and Caitlyn McCarron, Barrett and Griffin Cosgrove, and Lindsay, Grace Ann, and Zachary Nahorney. He is also survived by many generations of nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, from 9-10:30 a.m. at New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, followed by his Funeral Service at 11 a.m. in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, New Britain. Burial with military honors will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital in Daniel’s memory, www.stjude.org .
