On Nov. 30, 1934, Josefina Cruz Pagan, our matriarch was born. On Jan. 3, 2019, she was called back home to our Lord. She was a strong, caring woman who was loved by all who knew her. She was a faithful Catholic and a member of St. Mary’s Church in New Britain.

Mami, grandma, grandma mai, mamuchca, vieja, fina, no matter what you called her she would always be there for you. If you grew up on Beaver Street in the ‘80’s you probably bought a limber from her and she probably fed you at least once. She was always surrounded by beautiful plants as she had an amazing green thumb. Her discipline was legendary and we are all better for it.

She is survived by 10 of her 12 children, six of her eight siblings, 34 of her 35 grandchildren, and more than 20 great-grandchildren. She was very loved and will be very missed.

Funeral services and calling hours will be on Monday from 12 to 2 p.m. at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 South Main St., New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Please share a memory of Josefina with the family in the online guestbook at
