Joseph Prestash

Joseph Prestash, 92, of New Britain, passed away on Feb. 14, 2019. He was born in New Britain, a son of the late Stephen and Catherine (Bonchak) Prestash. He was an educator in New Britain and retired as the vice principal of Smith School. He was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran and an avid golfer at the Stanley Golf Course. He was predeceased by his wife, Sophie (Skip) Skrypek Prestash and his son, Jay Prestash. He was also predeceased by his brothers Pvt. Andrew (WWII), Myron, Walter, Anthony, Steve, and sister, Mollie Mancini. He is survived by his brother, Emrick Prestash and sister-in-law, Sophie Prestash, whose good cooking and baking he enjoyed, and numerous nieces and nephews; a special appreciation for his good neighbors and friends, Bruce and Carolyn and Maureen.

A committal service with full military honors will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Sacred Heart Cemetery, on Burritt St., with Fr. Casey of St. Francis of Assisi Church officiating. New Britain Memorial-Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., is in care of the arrangements.
