Karen L. Bandzak, 53, of Enfield, Conn., passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at Avon Health Center after a 12-year courageous fight with cancer. She was born in New Britain, Conn., on Dec. 16, 1965. Karen grew up in Plainville, Conn., where she would later raise her two children. Karen graduated from Farmington High School in 1984. She began her career at Avon Health Center in 1983 and retired as director of human resources after 35 years of service in 2018.
Karen was predeceased by her father, Robert A. Bandzak. Karen is survived by her mother, Sabina Drost of Unionville, her fiancé and long-time partner of 16 years, John Ragno of Enfield, her daughter, Heather Perbeck of Plainville, her son, Andrew Perbeck and his wife, Laura Perbeck of Plainville, her step-daughter, Kristen Pease and her husband, Dave Pease of Stafford, her step-son, John Ragno and his wife, Heidi Ragno of Agawam, Mass., and her brother, Joseph Bandzak and his wife, Sarah. In addition, Karen is survived by her grandchildren, Emilia, Vance, Sophia, Joe, and Olivia.
Karen will always be remembered as a loving mother, daughter, partner, nana, sister, and friend. Karen’s heart was pure gold, her smile was contagious and she was never at a loss for kind words. Karen’s family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Molly Brewer and the entire Oncology Department at UConn Health Center as well as the amazing staff at Avon Health Center.
Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville, on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. followed by a private ceremony.
