Judith Ann (Grala) Heit, 70, passed away 4/14/2019 in Oriental, N.C. Born in New Britain, Conn., to Stanley and Claudia (Morin) Grala, she was the wife of Ralf Heit who she married in 1988, in New Zealand. After a 25-year career at Aetna Life & Casualty, Hartford, Conn., she and Ralf moved to Oriental, N.C., in 1994, where they built their dream home on Brown Creek. Upon the suggestion of a friend, she got her broker’s license and enjoyed a successful real estate career until her second retirement in 2012. Judi was a member of the Old Theater Corp. board since 1996, having served in many key positions including president. She enjoyed writing and was a prolific blogger, researching everything from North Carolina shipwrecks to Women of Adventure.

As her family’s genealogist, she most enjoyed “climbing trees” for family, friends, and correspondents from her many blogs. In addition to her devoted husband and most incredible dogs, she leaves behind her much-loved siblings, Stanley “Skip” Grala, Jr. of New Britain, Conn., and Diane Hook of Newington; her awesome sister-friend Mary Maxwell of Oriental, N.C.; her dear aunt, Joan Cepek of Easthampton, Mass.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Final arrangements by Bryants Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Old Theater Corp., at POB 521 or PAWS at POB 888, both in Oriental, N.C. 28571.
