Mary (Rossitto) Salemi

Mary (Rossitto) Salemi, 90, widow of Joseph Salemi, of West Hartford, and formerly of New Britain, passed away on Monday, Sept. 16, 2019, after a brief illness. She was born in Sortino, Siracusa, Sicily, and was the daughter to the late Vincenzo and Concetta (Buccheri) Rossitto. Mary retired from Emhart after 34-years of service. After retirement, she volunteered at the Hospital of Special Care for many years. Mary enjoyed spending time with family, especially cooking their favorite meals. She also enjoyed her trips back to Italy and traveling with family and friends. She will also be remembered for her love of reading, knitting, cooking, and listening to opera. Mary faced death as she lived her life, with dignity, grace, and strength.

She was known as ‘Nonnie’ to many, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, where she affectionately called them, “Sunshine” and “Joya.”

Mary will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Carmela Roy and her husband, Michael of Berlin, and Rotonda West, Florida, and Connie Zorn of Prospect, her sister, Teresa Raffa and husband, Vincent of Melbourne, Australia, her precious grandchildren, Andrea Maguire and husband, Matthew of Burbank, Calif., Christopher Roy and wife, Erin of Golden, Colo., Laura Zorn of Arlington, Mass., and Alex Zorn of Stamford, Conn., and her sweet great-grandchildren, Ruby and Vance Roy. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews in Italy and Australia, and her many lifelong dear friends. She was also predeceased by six brothers, two sisters, and son-in-law, Paul Zorn.

A time of visitation will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, followed by her Funeral Liturgy at 12 p.m. at St. Joachim Parish, Church of St. Ann, 101 North St., New Britain.
