Donald A. “Donny” Stankelis, 84, of New Britain, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019.

Donny was born on Jan. 1, 1935, in New Britain, and was the son of the late Anthony and Ann (Shalinga) Stankelis. Donny was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Annette “Netty” (Scamoni) Stankelis. He graduated E.C. Goodwin Technical School as a baker. Retired from Emhart (Corbin and Russwin) after 40 years as a buffer and polisher. Donny served his country honorably in the United States Army in France and Germany as a cook. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Netty, often with their many friends and family members. They were permanent campers at Hidden Acres Family Campground in Preston, for 40 years and their fellow campers became a second family to them. Donny was an avid gardener, sharing the bounty with family, friends and the many doctors and caregivers he had as he battled his way through four different cancers. He was a great cook and all can attest that any meal prepared by Donny, be it a simple lunch or a holiday celebration, was a feast. Donny looked forward to Thursdays and an evening of cards and socializing with the Card Club

Donny is survived by his four brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony and Ann Stankelis of Hebron, John and Rosalie Stankelis of Collinsville, Peter and Marcy Stankelis of Middlefield, and Robert and Barbara Stankelis of Rhode Island and many, many loving nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Donny.
