Frances (Lazaris) Veleas, 93, of Newington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2019. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter Veleas. Born in Hartford, daughter of the late Anthony and Marguerite (Whittle) Lazaris, she was a longtime Newington resident and a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New Britain. The most important part of Frances’ life was being a mother and grandmother. Frances took great care to show her love to those she cared for, cooking for them, attending their sporting events, and volunteering for church projects. Her smile and caring nature will be missed by all.

She is survived by her sons, Leo Veleas and wife Roberta, Dennis Veleas and Anthony Veleas; her grandchildren: Peter Veleas and wife, Lisa, Leah O'Leary and husband, Michael, and Christa Civitillo; her great-grandchildren: Zachary, Joshua, Daniel, Drew, Devon, Alyssa, Lauren, Rachel and Leah, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Catherine Danias and her granddaughter's husband, Leo Civitillo.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 5 - 7:00 p.m. with a Trisagion service beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. Her funeral service will be held DIRECTLY at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 301 West Main St., New Britain on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 10:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain.
