Derek Carl Guenther, 30, of Plainville, died unexpectedly on Thurs. Sept. 26, 2019, at his home.
He was born in New Britain on Oct. 3, 1988, to Carl Guenther and Debra Lee (Grant) Fuhrman. As a child, while attending Bristol schools, Derek scored so well on his aptitude tests that his teachers recommended he take college level classes. His knowledge in all subjects was brilliant. He graduated from Bristol Central H.S. Class of 2006 and immediately went to work. He was a highly regarded employee at Westfalia North America for the last eight years. Derek was a man with a big heart who would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He would go that extra mile if he could. He had a keen sense of humor and always loved a good laugh or practical joke. Derek also loved the beach, camping and outdoor life. He will forever remain in our hearts and memories.
He is survived by his father, Carl Guenther and wife, Brunilda; his mother, Debra Fuhrman and husband, Stanley; his sister, Samantha Lee Guenther; his brothers, Allen McBurney and Nicholas Fuhrman; his step-brother, George Gonzalez; his step-sisters, Jennifer Algarin and Brendaliz Gonzalez; his best friend, Todd Groves and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends too numerous to mention.
Derek was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Merwin and Helen Guenther and his maternal grandparents, Carl and Irene Grant.
