New Britain has 11 more test positive for COVID-19; state hospitalizations continue to fall

Written by MATT HORNICK@MNHornickNew Britain saw the highest increase locally of positive COVID-19 tests as state health officials announced the city added 11 positive cases to bring its citywide total to 953, which is the ninth-most of any city in Connecticut.Bristol now has an additional five positive cases of coronavirus, which brings the city’s total to 552 and the 21st-most in the state. Southington’s updated total number of positive cases is now at 311, which means two town residents tested positive in the past day. Newington (346) and Plainville (140) each had one person test positive Saturday while Berlin (150) and Plymouth (68) each held steady at their numbers from the day before.44 coronavirus patients were discharged from hospitals across the state over the past day, dropping the number of hospitalized patients to 533. Hartford County holds 120 of those patients in hospitals, which is the second most in the state behind Fairfield County (176)Connecticut’s death toll also rose by 44 Saturday as the state nears 4000 COVID-19 deaths. 3912 people in Connecticut have died from the virus.The state was able to test 5,542 people over the past day and 260 of them tested positive. Connecticut has now tested a total of 246,935 people and 42,022 of them tested positive for the virus.Across the state, Bridgeport still has the most positive cases with 3,328, followed by Stamford with 3.095, New Haven is third with 2,437, Hartford is fourth with 2,248, Norwalk is fifth with 1,984, Waterbury is sixth with 1,865, Danbury is seventh with 1,773, West Haven is eighth with 1,026, New Britain is ninth with 953 and Hamden is 10th with 944.
