James Joseph Machowski, Sr. (Big Jim) passed away at his home Dec. 30, 2020, at the age of 73. James was born to the late Frank and Anna Machowski on Dec. 6, 1947, in New Britain. He grew up in New Britain where he met lifelong friends, developed a passion for cars while hanging out with the crew at United Auto Services, and met his ex-wife Susan DeSena. They raised a family in Berlin where James held careers as a carpenter and truck driver. James was an honest and hardworking man. He sacrificed a lot in order to provide for his family as any good parent does. Oftentimes working numerous jobs at once to put food on the table and presents under the Christmas tree. Our father loved deep sea fishing, the tranquil beauty of the ocean, and the calmness that it brought to his life. Those are some of the greatest memories that we all shared with our father over the years. Until we meet again, may you finally be at everlasting peace, find love and happiness wherever your soul lies.

James is survived by his immediate family: sons James J. Machowski, Jr. of Puerto Rico, Michael P. Machowski of New Britain, Matthew and Catherine Nguyen-Machowski, and grandson Wesley Vinh Machowski of Berlin. James also leaves behind his older brother Frank Machowski, sister-in-law Rose Machowski, nephews Richard and Steven Machowski of Southington.

A private graveside service to honor the life of James, Sr., will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain, where James will be buried with his parents. There are no calling hours. The Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, has charge of arrangements. To extend condolences to the Machowski family or to share a memory of James, please visit SHAKERFUNERALHOME.COM.
