Marie C. Maleno, 90, of New Britain, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2021. She was the beloved wife of 53 years to the late Joseph Maleno. Born in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Howard Colangelo and Anna (Passerini) Colangelo. Marie was very proud of being a registered nurse, yet chose to be at home with her children. She especially enjoyed attending the annual nurses’ reunion luncheons at the Hospital of Central Conn. Marie was a long-time communicant at St. Ann Church and she volunteered her time making sandwiches for those in need. She enjoyed camping, jigsaw puzzles, Scrabble, her collection of carousel horses, and listening to her grandchildren’s adventures. Anyone who knew Marie, admired her for her elaborate Thanksgiving dinners, soups, Easter bread, and her infinite patience.

Marie was the devoted mother of Mark (Diane) Maleno of Westerly, R.I., Lynn Maleno, and Lauren (George) Cozma all of Murrieta, Calif. She was the cherished grandmother of Kim (Brent) Hager, Lee Maleno, and George Joseph Cozma. Marie is survived by her brother Vincent (Mary) Colangelo who together shared a deep and lasting sibling relationship. Also surviving is her dear sister-in-law, Ann Ottavi, and several special nieces and nephews.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a celebration of Marie’s life will be held in the Spring or Summer. The Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, has charge of arrangements. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.
