Pastor Carol Terry died Thursday, Oct. 27th in Pennsylvania at the age of 83.  She was born Nov. 30, 1938 and raised in Southington by the late Albert and Frieda Heise. Along with her husband Robert, she raised two sons in Plainville. She was very encouraging of her sons, in their schooling and other activities. She worked as a classroom aide at Toffolon School; administrative aide, and later secretary at Plainville Junior High; a church secretary, and as an administrative assistant at Klingberg Family Centers in New Britain.

She was a very active member of Plainville United Methodist Church, and after the death of Bob in 1995, she answered the call to go into ministry full-time. She renewed her education in Maine, and then relocated to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where she served two churches as their pastor, before moving to Smyrna, DE where she served as the associate pastor at Asbury United Methodist Church until her retirement. In her retirement, she served on the staff at Avenue UMC in Milford, DE, and again at Asbury. She was known by everyone as a good listener and a great encourager, with a terrible weakness for buying books. In the ministry and out, she modeled the highest virtues of compassion and concern for others.

In addition to her parents and her husband Bob, she was preceded in death by her sisters Janet Travers and Barbara Grooman and two nephews. She is survived by her sons, Mark  and his wife Jennifer of Springfield, PA and Jack of Gulfport, Fl.; grandchildren, Jacob, MJ and Joshua, and nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of Carol’s life on Monday, Nov. 28 at Plainville United Methodist Church, 56 Red Stone Hill, Plainville, CT 06062 at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Plainville UMC, or to your local library.
