PLAINVILLE – A local man arrested in the fall for allegedly having illegal sexual contact with a teenager is now facing more serious sexual assault charges with the same victim.
Spencer Roy, 23, of 25 Forest St., was charged Tuesday with four counts of second-degree sexual assault of a minor, three counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of providing a false statement.
Roy was previously arrested Nov. 1 on a felony charge of illegal sexual contact with a victim under 16 years old. That case allegedly involved inappropriate contact with a 15-year-old girl, according to police.
During his arraignment Tuesday in Bristol Superior Court, Roy’s attorney, Richard Goodine, said the new charges stem from new information that has come to light. The accusations, he said, allegedly happened during the same time period in which Roy has been accused of having inappropriate contact with the 15-year-old.
Further information from the victim is what ultimately led to the most recent charges being filed.
Roy has been held on bond since an arrest on Feb. 7, when he was charged with violating the protective order that had been issued after his first arrest in November. The order barred him from contacting the victim.
According to the arrest warrant in that case, Roy had allegedly been trying to contact the teen through an intermediary between Jan. 23-30. Police said he had been messaging someone through social media, asking her to tell the teen he still loves her and to ask if she still loves him.
During the messaging conversation, the warrant said, Roy allegedly referenced driving to the 15-year-old’s workplace and watching her leave for the day.
Roy, who is being held in custody, is due back in court next month.
