PLAINVILLE - Plainville Public Library has announced several programs and activities in September.
The following free programs will be held at the library at 56 E. Main St. :
Plainville Public Library will be showing the movie “The Zookeeper’s Wife” Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. and Sept. 23 at 1:30 p.m. In 1939, Antonina Zabinski (Jessica Chastain) and her husband, Dr. Jan Zabinski (Johan Heldenbergh), have the Warsaw Zoo flourishing under his stewardship and her care. When their country is invaded by the Nazis, Jan and Antonina are stunned-and forced to report to the Reich’s newly appointed chief zoologist, Lutz Heck (Daniel Bruhl). This movie is rated PG-13.
Plainville Public Library will host Black Bears in Connecticut Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. According to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection website, there have been 56 sightings of black bears in Plainville this year. No registration is required.
Plainville Public Library also invites people to participate in their adult crafting series. Each month, participants will create a variety of craft projects using inexpensive items based around a theme. The first event, Make Your Own Bookmarks, will be held Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Future dates and projects included “Upcycled Crafts” Oct. 17, “DIY Tablescapes” Nov. 21 and “Winter Crafts” Dec. 19. Space is limited to those who intend to participate are encouraged to stop at the reference desk or call the library.
Supplies will be provided. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Plainville Public Library.
Plainville Public Library will offer a coloring program for adults once a month starting Sept. 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The library will supply refreshments provided by the Friends of the Plainville Public Library, coloring pages, markers and colored pencils or attendees can bring their own. Registration is not required.
The library’s Great Discussion Series continue Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. in the conference room. Those interested in how foreign policy works and those who would like to contribute to national discussions and influence American diplomacy at home and abroad are invited to join Great Discussions. The group, associated with the Foreign Policy Association, meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the library. It is run by members of the Plainville community interested in learning more about foreign policy.
The Foreign Policy Association serves as a catalyst for developing awareness, understanding and informed opinions on U.S. foreign policy and global issues. Through its balanced, non-partisan programs and publications, the FPA encourages citizens to participate in the foreign policy process.
This group will use the Great Decisions text published by the FPA. Copies of the text are available for check-out at the Plainville Public Library, but participants are also welcome to purchase their own copy at fpa.org for $25.
