PLAINVILLE – A Plainville couple is on edge after a criminal tried to break into their bedroom window as they slept.

Now residents who live at the Quail Hollow Apartment Complex say management has pledged to install cameras and add lighting in the next few weeks.

At the Quail Hollow Apartment Complex in Plainville, Mina Petraroia and her partner Rosie DellaVentura have loved just about every moment they've spent there.

“It's a community, it's not just a building, it's not just an apartment house, it's a community,” Petraroia said.

But on Wednesday morning, she noticed something bone-chilling happened.

“I asked Rosie to open the window and she opened the window and said ‘Mina the screen is cut’,” Petraroia said.

While the two slept just steps away, someone sliced a hole in the window screen outside their bedroom.

It appears the criminal was trying to get inside, but fortunately, they were stopped cold by Mina's ingenuity.

“This is my New York security stick, they can't open the window,” Petraroia said.

They are both relieved that they’re okay, but they had been thinking about their close call all day on Wednesday.

But they said they refuse to be victims.

They said they reported the attempted home invasion to police, who pledged to increase patrols in the area.

Police didn’t return requests for comments on Wednesday evening, but Channel 3 noticed patrol cars sitting on New Britain Avenue on both sides of the apartment complex.
