PLAINVILLE - Andrea Wasley is set to open Plainville Funeral Home May 20.

Plainville Funeral Home will be the community’s only locally owned and operated funeral home. A grand opening and ribbon cutting will be held May 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Plainville Funeral Home at 81 Broad St. All are welcome.

Prior to beginning construction at 81 Broad Street, Wasley was the managing partner at a nearby funeral home.

She began her career with her previous employer in 1994, while the funeral home was a family owned and operated enterprise. Over her 22 years of experience, she watched the transformation of the funeral home from family owned to a corporately operated business.

Wasley believes strongly that the people of Plainville and surrounding communities deserve the opportunity to work with someone who is a member of their community and has their best interests at heart.

“Plainville supports small businesses, and the support the community has shown during this process has been overwhelming and humbling,” says Wasley. “I know I have made the right choice for myself, my family and my hometown in taking on this endeavor.”

Wasley first took an interest in funeral service at the age of 16, following the loss of her grandmother. The comfort her family received from the funeral director and the appearance of her grandmother after the illness she endured were some of the things that drew her to learn more about the profession.

Ultimately, Wasley feels this career path was her calling. She began writing letters to local funeral homes seeking an opportunity to shadow and learn from a professional. Jim Bailey took a chance and brought her on board in 1994.

“Mr. Bailey taught me the true meaning of what we do each day,” said Wasley. “Science is a small part of it, but this life is about people and families, making connections and being involved in your community.”

Upon breaking ground in October, Wasley wanted to be sure to include as many people from the Plainville community in the project. Susco Building Group oversaw the construction process, with local contractors utilized in all phases, including Jane Carney of Painting and Decorating, Comp-u-signs, D’Amico Construction Company, Joe Ettorre of JDA Sprinklers, Byron Treado of Simsbury Bank, DeSorbo Landscaping, and Lipski Electric, among others.

“I’m extremely proud to bring another woman-owned business to town and work alongside many other strong, professional and successful female entrepreneurs,” said Wasley.
