PLAINVILLE - Local police arrested an East Hartford man on Thursday and charged him with numerous sexual assault charges, alleging he had sex with an underage girl several times.

Hector Morales, 48, was arrested at his home on three counts of first-degree sexual assault, four counts of second-degree sexual assault and seven counts of risk of injury to a minor.

According to police, the arrest was the result of a lengthy investigation that revealed Morales had an ongoing sexual relationship with an underage girl for several years. Police said they could not release further information, as the warrant in the case has been ordered sealed by a judge.

Morales was arraigned Friday in Bristol Superior Court, where Paul Rotiroti, state prosecutor, asked that bond be set at $500,000 because of the "terrible nature" of the case.

"It's a horrible situation," Rotiroti said, declining to go into the allegations further.

Morales, who has no previous criminal record, has been ordered not to contact the victim in the case or go to her home while the charges are pending. He is being held on $500,000 bond.

The case has been transferred to New Britain Superior Court - where the most serious matters in the area are prosecuted. Morales is scheduled to appear there June 12.
