PLAINVILLE – The Plainville Community Pharmacy was honored Tuesday by the Plainville Chamber of Commerce and town leaders for owner Suruchi Patel’s community outreach efforts.

The pharmacy, located at 170 East St., opened last November and has since been “building a strong client base with a strong emphasis on service” according to town Economic Development Director Mark Devoe.

Chamber officials gathered to recognize Patel’s success, as well as her dedication to the community. Patel, who greeted each visiting chamber member and town official with a hug, was presented with the Plainville Economic Development Agency’s 2018 Kristian Jensen Jr. Memorial Award for “Most Beneficial Community Impact.”

“It feels great to be recognized,” Patel said. “We have received huge support from the town. I have had people come in to welcome me, even if they are not a customer, and the town has recognized me for everything I have done. I am so honored to be here.”

Patel said that her outreach efforts have included presenting two programs at the local senior center about the opioid epidemic, contributing to the Plainville Family Fest and to the local football and baseball teams, donating to Bread for Life, participating in the Memorial Day parade and holding “Coffee and Communications with your Pharmacist” events every month.

She also said that she would also be participating in a community health fest in July.

Plainville Community Pharmacy also does immunization shots, a smoking cessation program, diabetes counseling and free medication delivery.

“I like to know my patients by name and know their history,” Patel said. “It’s like a family here.”

Jeff DiCosimo, president of the Plainville Chamber of Commerce, said that Patel “has a beautiful place” and “does a great job.”

“The community needs something like this,” he said. “We have a lot of chain stores but I’m glad we now have our own, local pharmacy to come to.”

Assistant Town Manager Shirley Osle said that Plainville Community Pharmacy is an asset to the community.
