PLAINVILLE - A Southington man is facing charges in a Plainville hit-and-run that injured a man.

Johnathon Stell, 25, was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck when he allegedly blew through a stop sign at the intersection of Broad and Park streets on June 22 and crashed into the driver side of a Honda Civic, according to the warrant for his arrest.

The Honda driver initially declined medical treatment before later going to the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain for “pain directly related to the accident,” the warrant said.

The two-page document does not elaborate on the man’s injuries.

Shortly after the accident, the man whose car was hit called 911 to report that he had just been the victim of a hit-and-run.

He said a pickup truck went through a stop sign and collided with his vehicle, causing it to spin out of control and settle down about 25 yards from the collision.

Police obtained video surveillance footage from the area that showed the pickup truck suspected to be involved. Investigators posted it to Facebook and then learned that the vehicle had been driven by Stell, who was later found at his Southington home.

According to the warrant, police said Stell admitted that he was involved in the hit-and-run and that he disregarded a stop sign and did not use a turn signal.

He also said he left the scene of the accident because he did not have a valid driver’s license, the warrant continued.

He told police it looked like the other vehicle involved left the scene without stopping as well.

Stell was charged last week with reckless driving, evading responsibility, operating without a license, improper turn, failure to obey a stop sign, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and first-degree reckless endangerment.

He is being held on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on Wednesday.
