PLAINVILLE - An Ansonia man was arrested over the weekend and accused of harassing and stalking a Plainville woman.

Jeffrey Behrmann, 31, allegedly hacked the woman’s Instagram account and used it to send a provocative photo to someone, posing as the victim and telling the person she had a sexually transmitted disease, according to the police report.

The 31-year-old has also been accused of going to the woman’s home and contacting her after police told him to leave her alone, the report said. The woman had dated Behrmann for several months before ending the relationship, finding out that he had previously been arrested for possession of child pornography, according to the report.

“One word came to mind, that was creepy,” Judge John Cronan said Monday during Behrmann’s arraignment, after reading the police report.

Following the breakup on May 31, the victim contacted police and told officers Behrmann had made a suicidal comment. Police pinged his cell phone and were able to find him driving around, but he refused to stop when an officer tried to pull him over, police wrote in the report. Hours later, police found that he had gone to the complainant’s home, using a key he had been given to go inside and leave love letters, according to police. She was not home at the time.

Police were later able to get in contact with Behrmann on June 1 and convince him to go to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. He was also told not to contact the complainant or go to her home.

Behrmann was released from the hospital last Thursday. The next day, the complaint contacted police and said she found plants and other items on her back porch that she believes Behrmann left there. A neighbor reported seeing him on the property. The complainant also said she had gotten numerous phone calls and text messages from an unknown number, which she also believes was her ex-boyfriend.

Further, the woman told police, someone hacked her Snapchat and Instagram accounts. Using the Instagram account, a provocative photo of the woman was sent to someone with a message that said she had an STD, according to the police report. The woman told police she suspects Behrmann was behind this.

Behrmann was arrested on Saturday and charged with first- and second-degree stalking, second-degree harassment, first-degree criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct. He was held in custody and arraigned on Monday in Bristol Superior Court.

During the hearing, court officials said Behrmann has previously been convicted of stalking and violation of a protective order.

“This case is very concerning,” said state prosecutor Jacob Pezzulo. “I think he’s a real danger to the victim.”

Behrmann’s bail was set at $75,000. He is due back in court on June 25.

According to court documents, Behrmann was arrested in 2016 for possession of child pornography and other charges. His arrest came after he allegedly posted nude photos to the Internet of his ex-girlfriend, a Bristol woman, from when she was 15 years old.
