PLAINVILLE - A woman killed Sunday when the car she was driving went off a cliff, falling more than 200 feet to the ground, has been identified as a 35-year-old Southington resident.
Plainville police on Monday identified the woman as Denise Santana, the only person in the car.
Police, firefighters from Plainville and Southington and an ambulance were called on Sunday to the area of 102 Ledge Road, where it was reported that a guardrail had been damaged. First responders found that a vehicle had left the road and rolled down the steep embankment.
Santana, police said, was pronounced dead upon their arrival. According to the fire department, the accident occurred sometime in the early morning hours.
Neighbors reported hearing something around 4:30 a.m.
Ledger Road was closed for hours while police investigated on Sunday. It has since reopened.
